First, let me start by introducing the new project car/daily driver, a 2013 Volkswagen GTI.
The GTI is a four door equipped with a DSG transmission. Before you complain about the Auto trans, hear me out. I wanted the manual transmission, but the wife won’t learn to drive stick. The next car we buy for her will be a truck with a tow rating around 5000 lbs. so that I can tow a trailer. Now on race weekends I can take her truck and tow the integra leaving her the GTI, this would allow me to get extreme with the car, and not worry about the drive home if I break.
The GTI is a standard model with cloth seats, the Tartan interior is a throw back to the first GTI. It doesn’t have a boost gauge so that might be one of the first additions to this car
The 2.0 liter turbo four has 200 hp and 207 lbs of torque. The motor wont stay stock for long there are a few chip tuners in the market that can add 50 hp to this motor.
I needed the hatch for carting stuff around town, and my choices where narrowed down to the GTI or a Focus ST. The ST is great, but with no Auto trans option it was out early. I would have loved to get another Honda but none of their current choices thrilled me. The car is a daily driver so don’t expect radical modifications like slammed suspension, only some horsepower and appearance upgrades.
Now for the update on the Acura. If you are a regular reader of this blog, first thank you , second might remember that I was trying to get the car ready for the Honda challenge event at Willow Springs. Well due to a back order from Honda on some bearings the car was not ready, and I missed the event. I hope to make the next one on the first week of June. The project of adding the LSD to the transmission has gone over budget and taken a lot longer than I thought. I will remember this next time I want to make any big changes to the car. The next update should be the install. Thanks for reading.
