I found out last minute that the local Porsche group was holding an event at the Spring Mountain Race track in Phrump NV. This is only 1 hour outside of Las Vegas so I knew I had to go. The track has had alot of changes since last time I raced there in 2007. The upgrades are extensive, truly making this a first class course.
The track was setup to be 3.4 miles, which is the longest track on the west coast. I didn’t have time to do any upgrades between races, but did lighten it up a bit by removing the speakers and the passenger airbag.
The big track brings out the big boys so they can stretch their legs. This vette had modern running gear and a loud motor.
Phrump is the home for the radical racing car. These tube chassis cars run motorcycle motors, and fiberglass bodies. They hug the ground, and hold the record at all the tracks they race.
Looks like a normal 930 chassis 911 Porsche?
nope, it’s got an LS2 from a GTO in the back, the new V8 actually weighs less than the turbo motor it replaced.
This mirage with an evo motor swap was on stands the whole day, never found out what was wrong with it.
The Acura preformed well for 3 sessions with my best time being a 2.22.145, but on the line up for the 4th sessions the axles had a terrible whine. I think the lowered stance is wearing on the 12 year old drive line. I have alot of upgrades to put on the car in the next few weeks including an oil cooler and gauges, new axles and some more suspension details.
